Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Conor Gallagher are left OUT of Gareth Southgate’s last pre-World Cup England squad as Ivan Toney and Eric Dier get call-ups to face Italy and Germany in the Nations League
Ivan Toney has been handed his first England call-up by Gareth Southgate – but there is no room for the injured Marcus Rashford.
Brentford striker Toney has been rewarded with a call-up after an excellent breakthrough Premier League campaign last term and a promising start to this season.
He could become only the third Brentford player to represent England and the first since Leslie Smith back in 1939.

Southgate said: ‘With Ivan Toney, we have been tracking him for a long time. I had a good chat with Thomas Frank about him last season.
‘His form and his qualities – not only his goalscoring but his technical ability, build-up play and aerial prowess – gives us a different threat to some of the other players we could pick.’
Having missed out on the previous two squads, Rashford was back in contention for the Three Lions after good start to the season at Manchester United.
But as Sportsmail reported last night, England medics were making late checks on Rashford’s fitness with regards to a muscular injury.
He has not travelled with United for the UEFA Europa League game against Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova on Thursday night.

England at risk of relegation
England have work to do if they are to avoid relegation from League A of the Nations League.
They have so far lost home and away to Hungary and drawn with both Italy and Germany, leaving them bottom of Group A3, three points adrift of Italy.
The bottom placed nation drops into League B for the next edition.
Southgate’s side play Italy in Milan next Friday and then Germany at Wembley the following Monday and realistically need four points or more to stay up.
Southgate didn’t give a press conference to accompany the squad announcement but did release some quotes.
He said: ‘There were certain players we wanted to keep involved this time, but that said it doesn’t mean that this is the end for some of the others who aren’t involved.
‘Marcus Rashford, for example, has shown some encouraging signs recently. He is a player we know well so if he can perform at a high level in the next few weeks, he of course will be under consideration.’
Rashford tweeted a little after the announcement: ‘Good luck to the boys later today @ManUtd. In regards to @England every player wants to represent there country and I’m no different! Unfortunately I’m not ready yet as I’ve picked up an untimely injury.’
Elsewhere, Eric Dier has been handed a recall after his excellent form under Tottenham boss Antonio Conte.
‘With Eric Dier, he has been playing well for a period of time,’ the England boss said.
Southgate has recalled the Tottenham defender Eric Dier after he missed a number of squads
‘We think it is a really close call across our centre-backs and he has deserved to be picked back in the group.
‘We know what a good character he is. He fits in with the culture and has great international experience and leadership qualities.’
However, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has been left out of the 28-man squad.
Gallagher had broken into the England squad following a string of impressive displays on loan at Crystal Palace last season.
Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is another player left out of the England squad this time
However, he turned down the opportunity to leave Chelsea this summer in hope of playing regularly enough at Stamford Bridge to maintain his international spot.
But his lack of action at Chelsea has cost Gallagher his place in the squad – and potentially he chances of going to the World Cup.
Ben White and James Justin are also absentees from the previous squad, though Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire keep their place despite a lack of first team football at United.
Dean Henderson is recalled into the squad to replace first choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who is injured.
